Can an open type generator be used outdoors?

Open type generators are not designed for outdoor use without shelter. They should be installed in a dedicated machine room or weather-protected enclosure. If outdoor installation is required, specify a silent canopy type or containerized unit instead.

How much cheaper is an open type generator compared to silent type?

Open type generators are typically 15–30% less expensive than an equivalent silent canopy type of the same kVA and engine brand. The price difference increases for larger units where the canopy fabrication represents a significant portion of total cost.

Can I add a canopy to an open type generator after delivery?

Yes — Elitech Power can supply retrofit silent canopies for most standard generator frames. However, it is more economical to specify the silent type at order. Contact us with your generator dimensions for a canopy retrofit quote.
